Biography
Scottish Soprano, Katie Carmichael is a graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where she completed a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance under the tutelage of Elizabeth McCormack.
In 2026, Katie appeared in the Edinburgh International Festival as a Rising Star of Voice, mentored by Louise Alder and James Baillieu. Katie was also a young artist on British Youth Opera's Serena Fenwick Programme, culminating in a scenes showcase in collaboration with Garsington Opera.
Katie has performed the role of Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) with Lyric Opera Studio Weimar. Opera scenes highlights include The Governess (The Turn of the Screw) and Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro) at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Adina (L'elisir d'amore), Iris (Semele), Zerbinetta (Ariande aux Naxos) and Tytania (A Midsummer Night's Dream) with British Youth Opera.
Her concert repertoire includes Bruckner's Mass in D Minor, Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb, Handel's Utrecht Te Deum, Mahler's Symphony No. 4, Mozart's Requiem and Vesperae solennes de confessore, Poulenc's Gloria, Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle and Schubert's Mass No.2 in G.
Awards include First Prize in the Governor's Recital Competition and the Leonie Kayser Competition, A. Ramsay Calder Debussy Prize, the Winnie Busfield Award and Second Prize in the Kathleen Ferrier Society Bursary Competition for Young Singers. Within the RCS Katie was part of Sir James MacMillan's mentoring programme at The Cumnock Tryst Festival and one of Karen Cargill's Associate Artists.
Katie currently sings in the Sòlas Ensemble, a Scottish vocal quartet founded by recent graduates of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The ensemble perform at a variety of concerts, recitals and events, most recently as the four soloists in Poulenc's Gloria and Bruckner's Mass in D minor with the Edinburgh Royal Choral Union, Brussels Choral Society and the Orchestra of Scottish Opera in Edinburgh's Usher Hall.
